New Zealand

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, and the South Island, and numerous smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 km east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 km south of the Pacific island areas of Caledonia, Fiji.

New Zealand is a land of magnificent and unordinary beauty. This is a wonderful place to enjoy nature and go mountain-skiing. It is no secret that “The Lord of The Rings” was shot in New Zealand – the nature of New Zealand so closely resembles the magical country! New Zealand is an active tourism spot; you can find all the necessary facilities for hiking, mountain-skiing, rafting and many other kinds of sports here. The country’s distinguishing characteristic is the beauty of its nature.

Today, New Zealanders are largely sophisticated and highly educated urban dwellers. Members of a unique and vibrant multicultural society, New Zealanders are embracing 21st century technology and culture in record numbers. But New Zealanders also have a background of quiet but rugged individualism, self-reliance, and a genius for invention–qualities still evident in the population today.

The climate of New Zealand is mostly cooling temperate to warm temperate with a strong maritime influence. However, due to its highly varied topography, microclimates can be found across the country. The main factors are similar to those found in the British Isles owing to the Pacific Ocean and latitude, although the mountain ranges can cause significant climate variations.

The support for students extends beyond the school or university. The New Zealand Government was the first in the world to adopt a Code of Practice that sets out standards for the care of international students, in and out of the classroom.

Every institution hosting international students like you has staff dedicated to ensuring your time in New Zealand is successful and stress-free. Halls of residence and hostels have live-in wardens who can provide advice and guidance.

Students may find some regions or cities are cheaper to live in than others in New Zealand. You can calculate how many everyday expenses such as accommodation, power, groceries, and transport are likely to cost by using Study link’s cost of living calculator.

Working while you study can be a good way to get work experience and earn a little extra to help you pay bills. It can also help you meet people. However, you need to make sure that your visa allows you to work, and make sure you leave yourself time to study and enjoy New Zealand.
